A combined policy still needs an item-by-item check
A gadget policy can bring a phone, tablet, laptop or smartwatch under one arrangement, but each device category may have different eligibility and benefits. Insurance2go describes multi-gadget options, while Switched On publishes purchase and ownership conditions for insured equipment. Make an inventory of the devices you want to include, their identifiers, purchase dates and replacement values. Check that each category is accepted and that the schedule records the relevant items. Do not assume that a phone’s loss benefit also applies to a laptop, or that a smartwatch is covered merely because it communicates with the phone. Accessories can be subject to another, narrower provision.
Examine the consequences of one incident affecting several devices
If a bag containing a phone and laptop is stolen, the claim may involve separate item excesses or a shared maximum, depending on the wording. Compare the combined value at risk with both the per-item and overall limits. Also check who may use each gadget, whether business-owned equipment qualifies and what happens when you replace one item during the policy period. A multi-device discount is useful only for equipment you actually need to insure and can document. Keep the inventory current, particularly after an upgrade or gift, so that the declared devices and their ownership still match the household’s situation when a claim is made.
Make a useful gadget inventory
- Record the model, serial number or IMEI and purchase date for every item.
- Check loss protection separately for phones, watches, tablets and laptops.
- Ask whether one stolen bag triggers one excess or several item excesses.
